Hi Dubs,

First post here! Just wanted to sign up to say I think this is an amazing job that your doing. This is something that I've always wanted to do myself, but knowing absolutely nothing about mechanics or bodywork I'm a bit stuck, so it will never happen although I still love the idea.

Funnyly enough, I woke up this morning with the idea of a replica on my mind again, so I did a google search and found this forum. Your documentation and pictures are excellent, its hard to find this type of information.

I hope you continue it to the finish, as it sounds like its heading towards being one of the best replica's made.

Just a few questions if I may;

  • Who made the bodykit that your using?
  • How are you going to takle the fuel cap? I had a Mk5 Escort Si some years ago and looked into converting my car to a replica (until I found the insurance costs! :O ). I remember the fuel cap on some kits were left recessed rather than pulled out. I guess yours, being a Mk6 and small-turbo copy will have the external pull-cap rather than the turny jobby - is it an easy fit?
  • How many hours have you spent building building the replica so far?
  • Are you going to put Cosworth centre console in (between the handbrake and the heater controls) or keep the standard Mk5?

Thanks for your time - please keep up the good work - can't wait to see the end result!! :thumb:

Hello paul. I'll start by saying welcometo evo :thumb:

Thanks for your comments mate, does mean a lot, although one of the best replicas made is probably a little over the top :thumb:

Anyway, the kit is from an ebay shop called styling fx although i believe you can get good cossie kits from evo.

I've got the fuelcap/flap situation sussed but it would be a bugger to explain in words, so i'll get some pictures up in the next couple of days to show how i got round it

Hours spent on it so far? I've lost count to be honest. I started the project in september 06 and work on it most evenings and weekends but i'm not a bodyshop expert so its been a very steep learning curve and taken a lot more time than a profesional would take tbh.

And i will be on the lookout for a cossie centre console but they don't seem to come up very often

Hope this helps and thanks for your interest

Thanks for the welcomes and kit offers guys.

I won't be building any time soon unfortunately (although I have been browsing at the prices of cars hehe!), but maybe one day I will have a go at a project like this. Unfortunately drive space is limited at the moment. I think its a real achievement to complete something like this. :)

I'll look forward to seeing more pics, Dubs - and of the fuel cap resolution. :thumb:

Bit of a pain in the arse to get the car out of the garage to get pics of the fuel cap. I need to get the front end finished and the move some stuff around to get the car out so will probably be a week or so before that happens but i will get some pics up when i can.

Being as this thread has been bumped to the top again i'll add a couple more pics of the progress i've made over the weekend

Due to the paint on the bonnet looking shite, and having rubbed through the paint trying to get rid of the orange peel, i rubbed it down again to re prime it.............

Image000-6.jpg

.........and managed to get on a couple of good coats of primer

Image010-3.jpg

Also got the lower rear spoiler back into primer yesterday after i'd fixed the damage from when it fell off a stool and now has its first coat of paint........And in the background, fogs and indicators permanently fitted along with the number plate.........

........so after my mini strop yesterday its all going good again :thumb:

where did you get the fogs & indicators from mate?

Both off ebay mate :thumb: an ebay shop sells the indicators on a buy it now for £20 + p&p and just got lucky with the fogs and won them for £60. Think they normally fetch £80 or more.

*Ebay shop ggp autostyle for the indicators :thumb:

looking really good mate , but i really think you need somewhere better to spray than on a stool or cardboard box , even a bench would do :P

Yeah should've taken more care where i put the spoiler. Its an awkward thing to balance because all the weight is at the back of it. :nutter:

Coming along a treat now mate, I know what you mean about everything going tits up when your doing a project, that's one of the reason's my Si was stood for a couple months with nothing done to it due to me spitting my dummy when the clutch was slipping after fitting the 2.0 engine  Oh and speaking of 2.0 engine's whenever you need any advice mate you know where I am :thumb:

You may live to regret that mate cos you'll end up being sick of the sight of my pm's full of engine questions

I was gonna leave the car well alone for a while but all the problems i had with it were bugging me so i had to go out today and get them sorted. Hopefully it was just a little hiccup but we'll see...........

;)

Seriously i know how it feels when it happens though, done all my st24 bumper last year only for the wind to catch it (on the floor too) & tumble it in the garden scuffing & chipping it while i prepped the wrc bumper. ;(
