On the topic at hand though, my cheap and cheerful pop rivet gun came today. On the weekend i'll properly fix the side skirts to the car from top and bottom to reduce movement/stress. My replacement front bumper should be here tomorrow with luck.....I have a new idea for it Edited June 3, 2013 by lee grout

lee grout
Hi Lee,where you been mate?Thought you might have done yourself an injury when laughing about Scottybo and his weany joke!!Any update on your motor and that replacement bumper you had ideas for bud? Na, no injuries. Well i'm maybe halfway through wet n dry. I thought the bonnet was really good cond, after the 1st rub down I found many stone chips that had to be rubbed down Also test sprayed the top of the arches, where they meet the original body so I could see how straight......or rippley they were! There not too bad actually, but need to knock up a large rubbing block. That should get rid of the tiny lumps n bumps. Also ordered my paint, will pay tomorrow and hopefully get it next week. I've next wed, thurs and fri off work too so I'm hoping the weather can hold out so I can start spraying. Im gonna do all the individual panels seperately then the chassis. While trying to work around the entire car in one, you dont feel like your getting anywhere!Morettes are now re-painted matt black and laquered. Wheel centre caps are also sprayed matt black and laqered, just need some badges to sit in the middle. Door handles are all rubbed down and awaiting primer, same as my door mirrors.Slowly coming together, as bits start getting sprayed it'll really start progressing Oh and andy, yes.....Blue is the colour. lee grout
Ok first up, pics from what I done previously. Morettes re-painted and this time laquered. As well as my centre caps.http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/DSC03566-Copy_zpsf41279c3.jpg Door handles prepped.http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/DSC03567_zpsbc8f4a75.jpg Mirrors stripped and ready for priming.http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/DSC03568_zpsb729dd06.jpgMirrors have now been primed and rubbed down ready for spraying. All my painting stuff.http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/DSC03569_zps8e9f633f.jpg I did have issue with being sent the wrong colour. All sorted now though. Over the past 3 1/2 days I've had off work. Iv'e been desperate to get some progress done as I was feeling like it was a bit bleak, getting the car done for the show. Well 3 1/2 days of hard rubbing, rubbing and more rubbing means its not far from paint. Cue the good ol' stonechips that were not 1st visable. Most have been rubbed down and etch primed.http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/DSC03558_zps6ccdf87d.jpgAnd ready for paint.http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/DSC03572_zps7ee4ef07.jpg Cant really see too great in this pic but some more rubbing was required. After spraying with random gloss colours I had laying around, I could look down the side and see if there were any dips.http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/DSC03576_zpsc4579ea0.jpghttp://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/DSC03574_zps583c87da.jpghttp://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/DSC03560_zpscb274446.jpg Door's prepped and masked up.http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/DSC03570_zpsda84dbb1.jpghttp://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/DSC03581_zps5497e729.jpg Rear bumper required more work. Where the plastic extension blends to the original needed a bit more tlc to get it feeling right. Spats also needed more sanding smooth where they blend in. Also had to remove some serious scratches from previous rubbing! Oh and fill over drill holes as it had slightly sunk!http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/DSC03571_zpsd00f623c.jpgNow its all ready for spraying. All lined up, under cover ready for paint.http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/DSC03582_zpsf5b49315.jpghttp://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/DSC03583_zps189f2968.jpg As the car sits now in the garage. All masked up bar the front rear screen ( all the edges have been done though)http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/DSC03579_zps2f725f49.jpghttp://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/DSC03578_zpsae01956d.jpghttp://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/DSC03577_zpsd7619646.jpg Even though its not really seen, these areas inside the door shuts have taken ages! Wet n dry 180/400 was an EPIC fail. The paper wore out so quick. In the end its all been 220 dry, 400 dry then 400 wet. Blagged some marble paper polishing pads from work.....worked a treat. Not very impressive here, just some standards to go back in. Although I did pull them apart and gave them a damn good clean, front and back.http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/DSC03564_zps40d14bc8.jpghttp://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/DSC03565_zps26adbbd4.jpg Not what you expect to find when cleaning/rebuilding your morettes http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/DSC03584_zps6357b3da.jpg Can also spy the rust inside another lamp http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx80/the-jonsonator/DSC03586_zpscb7096fd.jpg Most of the body has been prepped for paint, as too have the rear bumper, mirrors and both front doors. * Car body needs final arch smoothing and joint lines in the side skirts cut.*Inside boot needs scuffing ready for paint.*Front bumper has been one big cock up on the delivery front but fingers crossed for monday *Rear doors need prepping* May decide to further blend in an area on the sideskirt. The bit that normally goes up into the rear quarter. As mine blends to the door and not a defined line of a rear quarter I think i'll blend it a little bit further to make it look like it goes, not just 3 door skirts 'whacked on'*paint* Fit interior and get it tested . The last couple of days have really moved this forward. A few more days and eve's and it'll be well away.

co-op scooby
Hats off to you Lee,you have been a busy beaver mate.If I lived closer ,I would come and give you a hand with the prep work.I found it very theraputic rubbing down my 280zx after I had my anxiety breakdown a couple of years ago and that helped me on my road to recovery. As you say,how annoying is it when you think its as smooth as a babies bum until you put some paint over your nicely worked panels and find almost crater like dips etc.On the positive side this is gonna be one awesome fecking motor on the Evo stand so CARRY ON THE EXCELLENT WORK MATE.regards Andy Edited July 7, 2013 by PeeWee
