My Escort GTi

Cage looks good, though I'd add some triangulation from the rear strut tops to the base of the main hoop myself.

With regards to the MOT, my understanding is that there is no specific noise limit for a road car, there isn't a set number, it's just what ever is considered to be excessive. Anyway, it's illegal to run with ALS turned on on the road, so that will help a bit, as it won't be popping flames quite so much or banging like a machine gun

The fabrication work for the conversion was just shy of £12k, the engine was £8k, but will have to spend a bit more on that for the desired spec (it cost around double that to build, got all receipts). When the cage is finished there won't be much change out of £3k. The arches weren't cheap, neither was the work to get them fitted and the bumpers etc modified to suit.

The gearbox, diffs, prop, suspension and braking components etc will all be sourced from a close to 0 mileage as possible STi 10, Gearbox, DCCD and Prop will probably cost £3k, then there's the rest.

Wheels and tyres will be costing a packet, they won't be anything run of the mill, few grand on suspension, probably £5k worth of brakes. Carbon bonnet will be a one-off mould as it needs a serious buldge and venting, estimated cost at the moment is £3.5k, carbon diffuser, carbon tailgate, carbon roof, carbon front splitter.....

then there's the fuel cell etc, digital dash, gauges and other instruments, polycarb windows, heated screen, electric power steering, decent pedal box assembly, nitrous, the list goes on, there's loads more...

The paintwork will be looked after by a seriously good bodyshop I've discovered, and will cost a pretty penny.

I really wouldn't like to estimate a cost, but lets just say £30k doesn't even get close...

When it's done, or getting close to completion I'll happily break down a spec list.

Your crazy Mike! 1-0-0-% NUTS!!

I got a ticket once for my Supra being to loud. Got police escorted to a local barry spot and the officer told me to hold it at 5rmp ... as this is what im going to be doing constently ........ asked him whats the limit and he said he didnt know ... Got a £30 fine though for being 107db on boost. 97db with an exhuast bung. I never paid it as promised and told them to take me to court but nothing every came off it

Turbo'd cars are quiter because they loose alot of noise through the turbo. When my escort got turbo'd it was almost silent.

There is no big trick to flames =/ Just need no cat, a bit of heel & toe, and a hot exhuast. Supra used to do it constently but never the big yellow flames that lick the rear screen aka spark plug injected ;) just a short burst of blue flame

Think I would of raither had a Ferrari 360 for the money you are going to spend on this but then you Ford nuts never make sense to me :P Good luck with it all and I hope your not left feeling like Me, Lee and the other big tuned Escorts out there

Looking at the car, i don't think he will be :) I'd also have some sort of supercar instead to be fair, but this is gonna be legendry, if not a bit of a waste of money (imho of course)

I won't be disappointed, trust me! ;)

It's a very personal car, built to my own very personal spec to suit me. I like the process of the build, and watching it develop. That said, I would like to be able to press the fast forward button for a few months, lol!

I know just how that feels :pancake:

Surely you both mean years rather than months :pancake:
